The CMA Canada Research Foundation (the Foundation) is an independent organization that generates
leading-edge research for CMAs, other strategic management professionals, the business community and
prospective members in educational institutions.
CMA Canada research supports the CMA Competency Map. All CMA Management Accounting Guidelines (MAG®s) and
Management Accounting Practices (MAP®s) cover key aspects of the CMA Competency Map. The vision of the
Foundation is to be recognized as the world leader in advancing the field of strategic management
accounting™.
The purpose of the Foundation is to:
- Expand the conceptual boundaries of management accounting by encompassing new developments and practices
that may influence the professional accountant in business.
- Develop relevant knowledge management materials that will either create or add value for CMAs and other
business professionals.
Providing Value-Added Knowledge Management Materials and Services
CMA Canada generates research products and services that provide practical tools for building the
competencies of business professionals and for enhancing the success of organizations.
Management Accounting Guidelines (MAGs)
MAGs are publications that advocate appropriate practices for specific management accounting situations. Each
publication addresses current financial management challenges and provides practical implementation guidance
for the practitioner. Sample MAG categories include: Strategic Management; Risk Management and Governance;

Management Accounting Practices (MAPs)
MAPs are short documents that are more narrowly focused in coverage. They focus on the tools and techniques
needed to develop and evaluate internal decisions within individual organizations. Sample MAP categories

Infocast Events
CMA Canada, in partnership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), hosts a series of high-quality infocast events based on
